Genuine student

This is judgement too. The term is common across study visa systems. Italy does not publish a test for it.

What the idea means

Whether you are coming to do the course you applied for. Not whether you are clever or committed, but whether the course, the funding and the plan hold together as a real study plan.

What the rules do say, which is the usable part

The embassy verifies that your course is consistent with your academic background, and may examine your documents and language further (MUR circular). You pre enrol for one course and cannot later move to a different university or course (University of Pisa). So "which course" is a decision rather than a placeholder, and the file is read as a claim about that course.

What you can actually do

Be able to explain, in your own words and without a script, why this course, how it follows from what you have already studied, who is paying and what they do, where you will live when you land, and what you intend afterwards. The program guides list the same questions: B28, M33.

What I do not know

How much weight an interview carries, whether every Dhaka applicant gets one, or what an officer concludes from a particular answer. The rules say the embassy may check further. They do not say how, and I will not fill that in.

One thing I will say plainly

The students who cannot explain their course are usually the ones who chose it from a list of easy admissions rather than from what they want to do. That is worth fixing for your own sake, long before it becomes a problem in a file.
