The visa · Part B: The money

Can I use borrowed money or someone else's bank statement?

Short answer: No. This is the one question in this guide with no nuance to offer.

Why not, practically

The embassy looks at the source of the money and at whether the sponsor's income explains it (V9). Money parked in an account for a few weeks has no source that survives that question, and the people assessing files have seen it before.

Why not, seriously

Forging documents, signatures and seals is prosecuted (Embassy of Italy Dhaka). Universities must report false academic documents to the authorities, the embassy and CIMEA (MUR circular). A doctored statement is not a stronger application carrying some risk. It is a different category of act, and the cost is not limited to this refusal (V18).

What people usually mean when they ask this

Three different situations hide behind the same question, and two of them have real answers:

  • The money exists but it is in land or a business, not in a bank. Then document the asset and the income it produces. That is a real financial position and it can be shown.
  • A relative will genuinely pay for me. Then they are your sponsor, and the question is whether they qualify (V12, V13), not whose account the money sits in.
  • The money is not there this year. Then the honest routes are a later intake, a cheaper city, a funded program, or a scholarship. B19, M23, M25 and M26 are where those answers are.

If you are in the first or third situation, book a session and we will work through the routes. If the question is how to make money look like it is there, I am not the person to ask.

This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
