PhD · Part F: Universitaly and the visa for PhD students
Why do PhD visas get refused?
Short answer: The usual reasons are an unvalidated pre enrolment, unclear funding, doubts about documents, or an overall migration risk judgement (MUR circular).
- Read any refusal letter carefully. It states the reasons and how to challenge the decision.
- Tell your PhD office at once. They have seen this before and may be able to help.
- Never try to fix a refusal with edited or borrowed documents.
The seven areas a file has to stand up to are in V14, and what is not a reason for refusal is V29.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
