PhD · Part F: Universitaly and the visa for PhD students
What documents and money proof do I need?
Short answer: The national rules for third cycle visas list: your master's certificate with CIMEA or DOV, the transcript with the program of each subject, a B2 four skill language certificate for courses in a foreign language, and the validated pre enrolment summary (MUR circular). On top come the usual visa items: form, photo, passport, accommodation, travel insurance and flight booking.
Money: at least €10,179.85 a year. The national rules allow the money to come from Italian universities and institutions (MUR circular), so your PhD scholarship letter is your main proof.
Clearing the confusion in Dhaka: the embassy's July 2026 checklist for university pre enrolment says a scholarship does not exempt you from showing personal or sponsor funds (Dhaka checklist). Embassies also publish separate checklists for postgraduate study. Email the embassy (visti.dhaka@esteri.it) or ask VFS which checklist applies to a funded PhD, and whether your scholarship letter covers the money requirement. Bring a 12 month bank statement anyway.
Accommodation: a temporary booking of at least 30 days, a rental contract, or a hospitality declaration with the host's ID (Dhaka checklist). Many PhD offices know local housing options; ask them.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
