Bachelor's · Part B: Am I eligible?
IELTS, MOI or Italian: what proof of language do I need?
Short answer: For a course taught in English from Bangladesh, take IELTS. The Dhaka embassy accepts only IELTS, with a score of at least 6, issued within two years before your visa application, unless your university has already checked your English and recorded it on Universitaly (Dhaka checklist). For a course taught in Italian, you need at least B2 Italian.
Why students get confused: The university and the embassy are two different gatekeepers. Some universities admit students with a Medium of Instruction letter. But the national rule says the embassy may only use certificates showing at least B2 in all four skills, from internationally recognised bodies or from universities (MUR circular). An MOI letter does not test four skills.
- English courses: aim for at least the IELTS score your course asks for, often 6 or 6.5. My free IELTS course is built for exactly this.
- Italian courses: each university tests B2 Italian, usually online before the visa. A B2 certificate such as CILS, CELI or PLIDA can exempt you from the test.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
