What is the DSU scholarship, and how do I get it?
Short answer: It is the government scholarship for students with limited family income, run by each region. It can give you cash, a fee waiver, a room and cheap meals. You apply every year, in summer, on the regional agency's site.
Emilia Romagna 2026/27 maximums (Regione Emilia Romagna)
| Type of student | Maximum yearly cash |
|---|---|
| Living away from home (fuori sede) | €7,171.11 |
| Commuting (pendolare) | €4,190.71 |
| Living at home (in sede) | €2,890.16 |
Eligible students in Emilia Romagna also get a full university fee exemption.
2026/27 deadlines, to plan 2027/28: Emilia Romagna 24 August 2026 for first years; Marche 28 August 2026 (Studenti.it); Tuscany, for Pisa students, 7 September 2026 (University of Pisa).
- In the first year you qualify on family income. From the second year you must also earn a set number of credits.
- Applying, or being "eligible", does not count as visa money. Only an explicit award letter does (MUR circular).
- Applying for a residence room does not count as visa accommodation either.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
