The visa · Part A: What the visa is, and how it works
Which documents must be originals, and which can be copies?
Short answer: Bring originals and copies of everything, every time. The Dhaka checklist asks for originals of several documents with copies alongside (Dhaka checklist).
Bring the original of
- Your passport, plus a copy of the bio pages
- Your apostilled certificates and marksheets
- Your birth certificate, if a parent sponsors you
- Your marriage certificate, if you are married
- Your bank statements, stamped by the bank
- Your IELTS certificate, if you are relying on it
- Any court guardianship papers, if you are under 18
Only one apostille per document
More than one apostille on the same document is not accepted (Dhaka checklist). Do not get a certificate apostilled twice thinking it is safer.
Names are the avoidable problem
The most common fixable fault is a name spelled one way on the passport and another way on a certificate or a bank paper. Check every document against your passport, letter by letter, before you go. Correcting a certificate takes months. Correcting it after a refusal costs you the year.
What I do not know
Whether VFS Dhaka will accept a particular substitute document in a particular case. The checklist is the rule and VFS applies it at the counter. Email visti.dhaka@esteri.it or ask VFS, and keep the reply.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
