What else costs money before I fly?

Short answer: More than tuition and a ticket, and several of these land in the same two months.

On insurance, what I can and cannot tell you

The requirement is clear: travel health insurance valid in the whole Schengen area for your whole stay (Dhaka checklist). The price I cannot quote. Premiums for this kind of cover in Bangladesh sit under the regulator's approved tariff, which is why quotes from different licensed insurers come out close to one another. I could not find a published IDRA tariff sheet for student travel cover, so I am not going to print a figure I cannot source. Ask two or three licensed insurers for the current premium for your exact dates, and check the policy says the whole Schengen area and the whole period, not a single country or a single trip.

Appointments are free

Visa appointments are free, including through VFS (Embassy of Italy Dhaka). Nobody should charge you for a slot. If someone offers you one for money, the slot was never theirs to sell.
