How does the permit work for the whole PhD?

Short answer: A study permit can be renewed for the full length of a doctorate and one more year (MUR circular).

• Apply for renewal at least 60 days before expiry, with the same kit and costs as the first time (University of Pisa).
• Bring proof of enrolment in the next PhD year, your scholarship letter, health cover and housing.
• Your PhD office can usually issue the enrolment certificate. Ask in good time.
