Can I get the Italian Government (MAECI) scholarship for a PhD?

Short answer: Yes. MAECI grants cover PhD programs as well as master's and research (Embassy of Italy Mogadishu).

• The 2026/27 call closed on 26 March 2026, earlier than most PhD calls. Grants run 9 months, 1 November 2026 to 31 July 2027, renewable.
• The Italian Cultural Institute in Bangkok announced them at €1,200 a month (IIC Bangkok).
• Some PhD calls reserve positions for holders of foreign government scholarships, which can include MAECI winners. Read the call.
• Apply on the Study in Italy portal. You still need to win a place in a PhD program.
