Master's · Part H: Arrival and the residence permit
How do I renew the permit, and what exams do I need?
Short answer: Apply at least 60 days before expiry, with proof that you are enrolled and passing exams (MUR circular).
- At least one exam passed in the first year, at least two in each later year; one can be enough in serious health cases or force majeure.
- No renewal beyond three years past the normal course length.
- Documents: the kit, permit copy, enrolment and exam certificate, proof of funds, health cover, housing (University of Parma). Same cost as the first time.
- Withdrawing formally from studies ends your permit; changing course needs university approval.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
