Bachelor's · Part B: Am I eligible?
Can I study medicine (MBBS) in Italy in English?
Short answer: Yes, but it is very competitive. Public universities admit students to English taught Medicine through one national test, the IMAT. Private universities run their own tests.
- In 2026, registration ran on Universitaly in late August and the test was held at the end of September. The 2027 dates are not known yet. They come in a ministerial decree, usually published in summer. Watch Universitaly rather than any blog, including this one.
- Non EU applicants living abroad compete for a separate, small quota at each university.
- The new "semestre filtro" reform applies only to Medicine taught in Italian, not to the English courses.
- Medicine is a 6 year single cycle degree, so plan your budget for six years, not three.
Bhaia's honest note: Nobody can promise you a "guaranteed" public medicine seat in Italy. Public seats come only through the ranking.
