Bachelor's · Part H: Arrival and the residence permit
What does the receipt allow, and what happens at the Questura?
Short answer: The post office receipt proves you applied and that you are legally in Italy while you wait (MUR circular). At the Questura they take your photo and fingerprints and check your originals.
- Bring: passport, receipt, appointment letter, originals of everything you copied, and passport photos (carry four).
- Track it: on the Polizia di Stato website with the codes on your receipt. Information line 803160.
- Collect the card in person when it is ready. Waiting times differ by city. Your university can enrol you "with reserve" meanwhile.
- Travel: do not book trips abroad on the receipt alone before you check the current Polizia di Stato rules. The rules are strict.
This page explains official rules in plain language. I am not an immigration adviser and I do not give visa advice. For that, always use official government sources. Rules change: confirm with your university, the embassy and VFS before you act.
