Proposals, presentations and interviews

The skills that decide applications, and the ones nobody ever teaches you.

What I offer

Research proposal clinic

Two sessions. The first pulls your idea apart: what is the actual question, can your method answer it, has someone already done it. The second works on the written version.

Presentation coaching

For scholarship interviews, conference talks, job talks and viva defences. Structure first, because most presentations fail before a single slide is designed. Then delivery, then the questions you're dreading.

Mock interviews

A real interview, scored against the criteria the panel will use, followed by written feedback. For scholarships, PhD admissions, and academic or development-sector jobs.

Who it's for

PhD applicants, early-career researchers, and anyone writing a concept note or preparing to defend an idea in front of people who will push back.

If you already have a draft, bring it. If you have an idea and no draft, that's fine too, and the first session is usually more useful at that stage.

And if you are confused and have no idea where to start, come anyway. That is a normal place to begin, not a sign you aren't ready. Most people arrive with a subject they care about and no notion of how to turn it into a question a panel will fund. Working that out is exactly what the first session is for, and it is usually the most useful hour of the whole process.
